Deneen is a happy transplant to mid-coast Maine from the Mid-Atlantic DMV (Washington, DC/Maryland/Virginia), drawn here in search of a better life-work balance and overall quality of life. What I like most about Maine:

The light, the water, the fresh air — Early morning light peeking in my southeast-facing bedroom window inspires me to get up and get out: on a hike, in a kayak, digging in my garden, or grabbing my camera to endeavor to capture even a fraction of all of this gorgeousness. The views I catch sight of just running errands take my breath away.

Creativity — In addition to opportunities to appreciate art through local galleries and fantastic museums like the Farnsworth, if you are inclined to dabble, as I am, there are classes in weaving, painting, knitting, printmaking, photography — the options are endless.

The balance — It can be difficult to leave work in its place, but I’m convinced the key to work-life balance can be found in Maine. As my geographic latitude decreased, so did my stress level — palpably.

The food — Everyone raves about the food here, with good reason. Healthy, fresh options are a priority for me, and they abound here.
